Alexa was sat at a table and had just been served a piece of toast with trawberry jam. She smiled at the waiter before picking up the toast and taking a bite. A new term started today and it was a fresh start. Last year had not been too bad but Alexa wanted to stay clear of trouble this year and make sure that she had no reason to go an see her mother.
Of course she loved December but she was so strict. The only peace she got was at the academy with other. And things were always broght here. Especially with Roni around. Lex smiled thinking of her personal guard. She was like a sister to Lex and she would never ask for anyone better to be in her life.
Taking a quick look around Alexa licked the jam off her sticky fingertips. If anyone saw her doing that they would not be best impressed.

It was surprisingly strange to see Alexa alone, yet, as it was at the moment, the separation was only temporary. Roni had gone out for some fresh air for a moment for fighting, training and all that guard stuff usually left her exhausted. Adding to that, she was famished so a hop, skip and a jump later, Veronica padded into the dining hall, eyes bright and warm with a wide smile upon her face- which was rare when she knew there was danger around. It was a new term and Roni knew she had the right to smile. There was no one ready to bomb the place or kill of any of the princesses- or not that she knew of anyway, but usually, beginnings were safe. When drama, cat fights and other international affairs rise up, it was time to buckle down, but for now, Roni was happy to start the year.
Dark brown eyes flickering to the, oh too familiar, brown hair, Roni grinned and that grin widened as she watched the lofty princess lick her jam covered finger tips. ”very ladylike, alex.” she teased, quickly taking a seat next to the princess. ”I didn’t know they taught you how to properly lick your fingers in your prissy little classes.” of course Roni meant it all in good fun. She often poked at Alexa’s classes, her habits and other peculiar actions out of boredom and jealousy; jealousy that she couldn’t take any of those classes and boredom… because of boredom. She meant none of it for Roni knew that in the end, they were all humans from the slave to the king. No one was perfect and although kings and queens strived to be so and proper, they would never achieve it.

Alexa jumped when she heard the voice and a blush came to her face. "Hey Roni. I didn't see you there." Alexa said. Of course she hadn't but then again there were worse people who could have seen her. "Come and sit with me." Alex took another bite before smiling at her.
Roni often teased her about the classes she had to take but truth be told she wanted to take classes like Roni. Be a normal kid who didn't have to learn about the correct way to walk and talk. "Oh yes. If we don't learn to do it properly then heads will be for the chop." She laughed before looking to her friend and asking, "How have you been lately?"

Roni grinned, playfully shoving Alex’s shoulder. ”humph. so my head must be next, huh? ‘cause I certainly don’t know how to lick my fingers like that.” she teased, certain that she would be dead right now for many reasons if she was a princess. alas, she was just a guard so breaking rules was like a tree falling down in the middle of the forest. No one’s around to hear it or care. Alexa on the other hand, Roni knew, had it tough. She had so many rules to follow and guidelines to live by. Roni’s one and only job was to follow her around and keep her safe. She was sure she was doing a good job at that.
Besides, even times when Roni was allowed to take a break from being Alex’s shadow, she still stayed with her seeing that she was pretty much Roni’s only friend and practically her sister. She had nothing better to do unless it was getting food or going to a separate class. Other than that, Roni and Alex were pretty much attached at the hip with Roni ready to jump when danger takes a visit.
”eh, im doing okay. I could be better.” she sighed, shoulders sagging a bit. ”my foot is aching from this morning’s training since I didn’t land this fall right.” she shook her head, recalling the sharp pain in her ankle as she fell, foot bent in a weird direction, yet not one to show any pain or fear, she got up, sucked it up and continued on with the rest of the day. After a few hard workouts the pain had subsided for a bit, but now that she was resting, it was starting to ache and swelling would be apparent under her baggy pants. Roni only shrugged, running her hand through her hair. ”but im okay.” she laughed, her echo hallow and pained.
”How about you, Princess? How was your day?”

It was funny how sticky fingers caused a conversation to occur, however she was not complaining. This time she wiped them gently on the napkin next to her. Maybe jam would be a rarer breakfast item for Alex from now on.
Her eyes flicked up from Roni's face to the rest of the dining room. People were slowly flooding in and Alexa felt uncomfortable. She always did with crowds of people. No not people. Royals. She felt like she was being judged. It was as if she wasn't good enough to have the blood she did. Which was why she envied Roni for being a guard. A little less pressure of what was expected from you.
"Oh Roi please be careful." Alexa said, her focus now back on her friend. "I don't want you hurting yourself." She hated seeing Roni in any sort of pain and if Alexa had it her way she'd stop Roni being a guard for the fact that she knew what the dangers were. "I'm ok." Alexa answered her. "I'm looking forward to a new year."

Roni watched uneasiness flood into the princess’s eyes and naturally, a red flag waved in the back of her head, raising the hairs on her back and telling her to be careful. Slow and steadily, her eyes made a round trip around the room, wary of the people’s faces as they glanced at her before looking away. However, none of them looked hostile. Half of them did even bear to look at them. With a deep breath, Roni sighed. Alexa was in no apparent danger and yet, still, Roni felt uneasy. Is someone watching us? Does someone want to kill her or pick a fight with her? were the thoughts running through her head. Naturally, Roni would end those fights before they ever got started. She would pick out each and every homicidal suspect until they swallowed their pride and finally fesses up to plotting against Alex. However, there was no danger. Not now, and yet, the two of them were still uneasy.
”is everything alright, princess?” roni inquired, still searching Alexa’s eyes for some sort of clue as to where the wrong-doer was. ”Just tell me who to kill and ill get rid of them.” with a playful grin, Roni cracked her fingers, giving Alexa the most curious, devious look. She glanced back around the room before assessing their original conversation.
She laughed, throwing her head back in an appalled gesture. ”I’ll be fine, Alex. If I can’t take pain during training, how do you think I’ll be when I take a bullet for you?” Roni shook her head at the thought. She knew the day would come someday. Now would be a good time to prepare.
Nodding lightly, Roni folded her arms. ”Me too! There’s a bunch of new students in my classes. It’s fun to push em around.” again, she beamed, a wide grin plastered across her face. Oh how she loved fresh meat. It was like giving a dog a new toy for her, but the kind hearted person she really was, Roni would never intentionally hurt someone for the heck of it. Sure she liked to pick on people, but it was all in good fun.
